The Ultimate Guide to the Six Thinking Hats
The popular Six Thinking Hats technique has been developed by Edward De Bono. It is explained in detail in his book of the same name.
It has the following benefits:
- Power: Intelligence, experience and knowledge are fully used;
- Time saving: Meetings and discussions take much less time;
- Separation of modes of thinking: One thing at a time. It’s suboptimal to think in multiple modes at once;
- Removal of ego: If you like the idea, you will not find negative sides to it. If you don’t like the idea, you won’t find positive sides.
I first learned about it in a communications class at the university I attended. I have little experience with it, and I just started offering it to my clients. So what I’ve done is extracting the most important information from the book as well as online. I organized the information in a mind map that you can download for free. You get the full explanation of each hat, and a mind map template (for Mindjet MindManager).
As I use it with my clients, I will share new insights. For now, this is a good start.
Go ahead and download this map. The .ZIP file contains the MindManager .MMAP file, as well as in a PDF file. Use this technique during your meetings. Your productivity and creativity will be greatly improved!
