Four Tools to Achieve Your Goals

I actually created this video back at the end of February. I was supposed to do something else with it, but finally decided to simply share it with you : )

What did you get out of it? Which tool will you start implementing now?

Six Thinking Hats (Template) with MindMeister

MindMeister - Collaborative Online Mind MappingI decided to have a bit of fun with MindMeister, and re-create some of Fluent Brain’s maps with it.

In another post, I will give a short honest review of that mind mapping software. But for now, I published the template map for the Six Thinking Hats by De Bono for you to use for your own needs. If you’re not sure how to use this technique, I created the Ultimate Guide to the Six Thinking Hats.

The Ultimate Guide to the Six Thinking Hats

Six Thinking HatsThe popular Six Thinking Hats technique has been developed by Edward De Bono. It is explained in detail in his book of the same name.

It has the following benefits:

  • Power: Intelligence, experience and knowledge are fully used;
  • Time saving: Meetings and discussions take much less time;
  • Separation of modes of thinking: One thing at a time. It’s suboptimal to think in multiple modes at once;
  • Removal of ego: If you like the idea, you will not find negative sides to it. If you don’t like the idea, you won’t find positive sides. (more…)

Book Review: Up Your Impact

Up Your ImpactAre you an “intrapreneur?” If you’re not, you should be, because intrapreneurs are the executives who will be in demand and will profit from a wealth of opportunities during the next several years. – Chuck Frey

When I learned that Chuck was launching a new e-book Up Your Impact, I was looking forward to reading it. I offered him to write up an honest review.

I met him virtually throughout the mind mapping community. He runs the popular Mind Mapping Software Blog.

In this review, I’m not going to summarize his e-book. Rather, I will mention what I liked most and least, what I got out of it, and what you get by purchasing it.

Download Your Free Habit Tracking Spreadsheet

HabitsThe best use of willpower is as an investment towards the installation of powerful habits (routines).

This spreadsheet is derived from the free one offered at Get Clients Now. It allows you to track which habits you are doing, and which ones you aren’t.

It helps you get accountable to yourself. You are more likely to follow through on your commitments this way.

Go ahead and download the following spreadsheet, it is free : )

Notice that it contains two tabs. The first one is the empty table that you need to fill. The second tab contains an example to better understand how to use this tool. (more…)

Jazz… And Effective Meetings?

Jazz BandPlaying in a jazz band is a lot like running effective meetings.

How so?

When playing jazz with other musicians, you’re following a structure, doing solos, listening, staying on tempo, jamming and recording.

There are a lot of similarities with meetings.

Here’s what I mean: (more…)

Why You Should Stop Relying On Willpower

Let’s say that it’s January 1st.

You’ve just made a New Year’s resolution to lose weight. So you sign up for a gym membership. You commit to going every day. It’s an act of will power.

At first, everything goes well. You’re very motivated, and you can imagine yourself losing all that weight in no time.

After the first week, you skip a couple of times because something came up. Your alarm clock didn’t go off, or you just feel too tired to go.

Two weeks in, you stop going.

If you had a personal trainer or a gym partner, you would probably have kept going. So why is that, and what does that have to do with your business? (more…)

Sprinting Throughout Your Day: How Ignoring Your Body Kills Productivity

You can’t beat your ultradian rhythm.

Ultradian rhythms are recurrent periods repeated over 24 hours. You are naturally focused for 90 to 120 minutes, and down for about 20 minutes. And the cycle repeats. This adds to your circadian rhythm, which is your 24 hour cycle of wake and sleep.

The best you can do is play along, and make the most of it: you need to have several sprints throughout your day.

Here’s how to organize your day:

  • Install a morning routine to get you ready for your day’s sprints
  • Sprint, rest, sprint, rest,… throughout the day
  • Install an evening routine to measure your progress

But before you start sprinting, there is something you need to consider. (more…)

More Clients, More Money,… More Muscles?

What does weight training have to do with business?

Actually, a lot.

When you’re weight training, you’re planning and following your plan, pushing yourself, growing, measuring progress and getting coached.

Turns out it’s very similar in business. (more…)
